Mekong Luxury
Is two nights enough for the Mekong Delta?
For one base, yes. Two nights at Can Tho give you one early morning on the river and one unhurried afternoon. If you want Chau Doc as well, plan four nights; the drive between the two is about 120 km.
Which hotel in the delta is the most comfortable?
It depends on what comfort means to you. The islet resort at Can Tho offers the most seclusion, the Victoria Can Tho Resort the easiest access, and the Nui Sam Lodge the view. The comparison page sets out the trade-offs for each.
Do you publish prices?
Journey prices are quoted on request, per trip, because the hotel rate on your dates is most of the cost. The pricing page lists the rates and fares that hotels and boat operators publish, with the date we read them.
Can we add Saigon or Phu Quoc?
Yes. The five-night journey ends with a road and fast-boat transfer or a flight to Phu Quoc, and any journey can start with nights in Saigon. Hotels in Saigon and on Phu Quoc are quoted at your choice.

Tours
Can any of these journeys start from Can Tho airport instead of Saigon?
Yes. Can Tho airport is about 9 km from the city centre, and it has domestic flights. Starting there removes the three-hour drive from Saigon on the first day.
Can we combine two journeys?
The four-night journey already combines Can Tho and Chau Doc. Beyond five nights in the delta we usually suggest adding nights at a stay you like rather than adding more towns.
Do the journeys run on fixed dates?
No. Every journey is private and runs on the dates you choose, subject to hotel availability.
Are flights included?
International flights are not. A domestic flight, such as Can Tho to Phu Quoc, can be included in the quote if your route needs one.

Where to stay
Why are three of the six stays from the same hotel company?
Because Victoria Hotels & Resorts built in Can Tho, Chau Doc and on Sam Mountain, and few others built at this level in the delta. We include them on merit, and the comparison says when each is the wrong choice.
What happened to Azerai Can Tho?
It left the Azerai brand in October 2024 and now trades as Legacy Mekong, Can Tho, Autograph Collection, part of Marriott, on the same islet. We confirm room types and what is open on your dates before quoting.
Why do you not list room counts for the Victoria hotels?
Their own pages do not publish a total. We list the room categories and sizes they do publish.
Which stay suits travellers who want a pool?
Victoria Can Tho has two, Victoria Chau Doc and Nui Sam Lodge one each, and the islet resort lists a main pool and villas with private pools. Nam Bo lists no pool.

When luxury is worth it
Is a luxury hotel in the delta worth it for one night?
Rarely. One night is mostly travel. If you only have one, choose for location: Nam Bo in central Can Tho puts the river walk and the Cai Rang boats at the door.
Can we mix a luxury stay with simpler hotels?
Yes, and it often makes sense: high-end where you have free time, simpler where you only sleep. Your quote shows both options side by side if you ask.
Does a luxury hotel make the floating market better?
It makes the early start easier, because the hotel is close to the river. The market itself is the same for everyone, and smaller than it used to be.
Is the rainy season a reason to choose a better hotel?
Often, yes. From May to November afternoon rain is common, and a comfortable room or covered terrace matters more when you spend more time indoors.

When to go
What is the driest month in the Mekong Delta?
February, in Can Tho's climate normals: under 4 mm of rain and less than one rainy day on average.
Is the flood season a bad time to go?
Not for Chau Doc. September to November is when Tra Su forest is fullest. In Can Tho, peak tides can flood riverside streets on some evenings, so plans stay flexible.
When is the hottest time?
March to May. April averages almost 34 °C as a daily high in Can Tho. A stay with a pool helps a great deal.
When is fruit season?
Roughly May to August for rambutan, mangosteen, durian and mango, which is also the start of the rains.

Can Tho river resort, 2 nights
Can we do this as one night?
You can, but we would not plan it. One night means a three-hour drive in, a 05:30 start and a three-hour drive out within about twenty-four hours, with no time at the hotel you paid for.
Which of the three stays is quietest?
The islet resort, because it sits on Con Au with the river between it and the city. The trade-off is that every trip out starts with a boat.
Can we stay a third night?
Yes, and at the islet resort we often suggest it. The extra day can be spent at the hotel, or on a half day to Vinh Long or Sa Dec, both within about an hour by road.
Is Cai Rang still worth the early start?
We think so, if you go knowing it is smaller than it was and has more visitor boats than it once did. Between 06:00 and 07:30 it is still a working market.

Chau Doc, hills and river, 3 nights
Why one night in town and two on the hill?
The river activities start from the town hotel's door, so one night there is enough. The lodge is where the free afternoons and the view are, so it gets two.
Can we fly part of the way?
Not from Saigon: the route lists we checked show no scheduled Saigon–Can Tho flight. If you arrive from another Vietnamese city with a flight to Can Tho, the drive on is about 120 km, roughly two hours less than from Saigon. We check flights for your date.
Is the boat to Phnom Penh comfortable?
It is functional rather than comfortable: about six and a half hours, with border formalities on the way and no air-conditioning reported on board.
When is Tra Su worth it?
Year-round it is a pleasant boat ride. From September to November, when floodwater is high, it is at its fullest; outside those months the water is lower.

Can Tho and Chau Doc, 4 nights
Should we do Can Tho or Chau Doc first?
Can Tho first if you start in Saigon, because it is closer. If you will leave by boat to Phnom Penh, Can Tho first is also the only order that works, since the boat leaves from Chau Doc.
Can we add a fifth night?
Yes. Give the extra night to the stay you expect to enjoy most. At the hill lodge it buys a full free day; at the islet resort it buys quiet.
Is the drive between Can Tho and Chau Doc interesting?
It is mostly a rural road along the river through Long Xuyen. We can stop where you want, but there is no need to plan a visit on it.
Which Chau Doc stay suits this journey?
The riverfront hotel if you will leave by boat or want river trips from the door; the hill lodge if you want a pool with a view and quiet nights.

Saigon, the delta and Phu Quoc
Boat or flight to Phu Quoc?
The fast boat from Ha Tien is the shorter road day from Chau Doc. The flight from Can Tho avoids the sea crossing but needs about three hours of road back to the airport, and the schedule we checked had no Sunday flight.
What if Mekong Lodge cannot be confirmed?
The first night moves to Can Tho, giving you three nights there, and we visit Cai Be's canals on the way in. We tell you before we quote.
Can the journey run in reverse, from Phu Quoc to Saigon?
Yes. The boat or flight comes first, then Chau Doc, Can Tho and Cai Be, ending in Saigon.
Do we need ID for the boat?
Yes. Passengers need a passport or national ID to board fast boats to Phu Quoc.

Pricing
Why is your quote higher than another company's?
Usually because of the hotel, the room category or the boat timing. Ask both quotes to name each hotel and room category; once those match, the difference normally narrows to the car and guide days.
Do you add a commission to the hotel rates?
Your quote is a price for the whole trip, not a list of hotel rates plus a fee. It is the price you pay; nothing is added later.
Can we see two room levels side by side?
Yes. Ask for it on the form and the first draft shows both, priced in full.
Are prices fixed once confirmed?
Yes, once the written confirmation is issued and the hotels are confirmed. Before that, hotel rates can change with availability.

How to book
How far ahead should we book?
As early as your dates are fixed. Small hotels such as Nam Bo have only seven suites, and dates around Tet fill earlier than others.
Can we book only the hotels and not the car?
Our journeys come as a whole: hotel, car, boats and guide days. If you only need a hotel, booking it directly is simpler.
What happens if a hotel cancels or changes?
We tell you as soon as we know and offer the nearest alternative, saying whether it is a step down. You decide whether to accept it.
Do you take bookings by phone?
No. Everything runs through the form and email, so every detail is in writing.

Destinations
Which delta base is closest to Saigon?
Cai Be, at about 108 km. But Can Tho, at about 170 km on the expressway, has more stays to choose from and is where most of our journeys begin.
Is Chau Doc worth the extra drive?
With at least two nights, yes. With one night, the drive costs more than the visit gives back.
Why is there no page for Ben Tre or My Tho?
Neither has a stay we would build a journey around. We visit them on the way to Cai Be or Can Tho.
Can we reach Phu Quoc without returning to Saigon?
Yes, by fast boat from Ha Tien or by air from Can Tho.
Read in full: Destinations.
Can Tho
Is Can Tho worth visiting for the floating market alone?
Only if you stay the night and go early. Cai Rang is smaller than it was; its first hour, 06:00 to 07:30, is what makes the trip.
Which Can Tho stay is closest to the market?
All three are on the river within thirty to forty minutes of Cai Rang by boat. Victoria Can Tho runs its own 06:00 departure; Nam Bo is on the pier where many boats leave.
Can we fly into Can Tho?
Yes, on domestic flights. The airport is about 9 km from the centre.
Is Can Tho safe to walk at night?
The Ninh Kieu riverfront and night market are busy in the evening. Take the usual city care with bags and traffic.
Read in full: Can Tho.
Chau Doc and Sam Mountain
River hotel or hill lodge?
The riverfront hotel for river trips and the boat to Phnom Penh; the hill lodge for the view, the pool and quiet nights. On three nights, do both.
When is Tra Su at its fullest?
From September to November, when the floodwater is high. It is open from 06:30 to 18:30, and the early hours have the softest light.
Can we go on to Cambodia from here?
Yes, by the daily boat to Phnom Penh, leaving at 07:00. Check the Cambodian visa rules for your passport.
Is the climb up Sam Mountain hard?
You do not need to climb: the summit is reachable by road and by cable car. The temples at the foot involve some steps.

Cai Be
Is Mekong Lodge still open?
Its website appears not to have been updated since about 2018. We have no information that it has closed, and we confirm directly with the lodge before quoting it.
Is the Cai Be floating market worth seeing?
Not as a reason to go. It still exists but has faded a long way. Cai Rang at Can Tho is the better choice.
Can we do Cai Be as a day trip?
Many people do, from Saigon. This site plans stays, so we include Cai Be as a night on a longer route or a stop on the drive to Can Tho.
When is fruit season around Cai Be?
Roughly May to August for rambutan, mangosteen, durian and mango, at the start of the rains.
Read in full: Cai Be.
Saigon and Phu Quoc
Is the boat or the flight better for Phu Quoc?
From Chau Doc, the boat from Ha Tien is the shorter road day. From Can Tho, the flight is simpler. Check the sea forecast and the flight days for your dates.
Do we need to go back to Saigon before Phu Quoc?
No. That is the point of these routes: the delta leads straight to the island by boat or by air.
Can you book our Phu Quoc hotel?
Yes, at the hotel you choose. We do not recommend or rate hotels on the island on this site.
Can we start on Phu Quoc and end in Saigon?
Yes. The same routes work in reverse, ending with the drive into Saigon.

About us
Are you a hotel booking site?
No. We plan whole journeys: the hotels, the car, the boats and the guide days, priced together.
Why only six stays?
Because that is how many we found in the delta at the level we plan for, and one of them carries a caveat. If a new stay opens and meets the same tests, we will add it.
Do you hold special rates at these hotels?
Naming a hotel does not mean we hold a contract or a special rate there. Your quote uses the rate available for your dates when we check.
Can you plan the rest of our Vietnam trip?
We plan the delta and its connections to Saigon, Phu Quoc and Phnom Penh. Beyond that, a planner who covers the whole country will serve you better.

Contact
Is there a phone number or an office to visit?
Not on this site. Everything runs through the form and email, so that the details of your trip are in writing.
Do you answer general questions about the delta?
Yes, if they relate to a trip you are planning. The destination pages and the when-to-go page answer the most common ones.
Can I send a list of hotels I am considering?
Yes. Put them in the notes field. We will say which fit your dates and route, and why.
How do I correct something in my enquiry?
Send the form again with the correction in the notes, using the same email address, or reply to our email.
