How a delta journey is priced, line by line
We quote every journey per trip, on request, because the hotel rate on your dates is most of the cost and changes with the season. This page shows how a quote is built, the rates and fares that hotels and operators publish themselves, and how a cheaper quote is usually made cheaper.
Why we do not print a price on each journey
On a stay-led journey the hotel is most of the bill. The same two nights in Can Tho can cost very different amounts depending on whether you take an entry room or a suite, whether you travel in the November to May high season, and which of the three Can Tho stays you choose. A single "from" figure would be true for almost nobody.
So every journey on this site is quoted for your dates, your party and the room level you want. The quote names each hotel and room category, lists the car, the guide days, the boats and any flight, and shows the total for the trip. If you ask, it shows a second version with a different room level next to the first.
The lines on your quote
What a quote is made of
| Line | What it covers | How it is priced |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels | Each night, in the named room category, with breakfast | Hotel's rate for your dates |
| Car and driver | One private vehicle from start to finish | Per day, by vehicle size |
| Guide | English-speaking guide on river and temple days only | Per guided day |
| Boats | Private boats at Cai Rang, Chau Doc, Tra Su, Cai Be | Per boat, by duration |
| Entry fees | Tra Su, Binh Thuy, other sites on the route | At the published fee |
| Onward legs | Fast boat to Phu Quoc, domestic flight, boat to Phnom Penh | At the operator's fare on the day |
| Meals | The meals listed on the journey page | Per meal |
Hotels usually make up the largest share, then the car. Guide days and boats are smaller lines, which is why dropping the guide on a free afternoon changes the total less than changing the room category.
Rates and fares published by the suppliers
These are figures the hotels and operators publish themselves, with the date we read them. They are not our prices and they change; we include them so you can check that a quote is reasonable.

What moves the price, in order
- The room category. An entry room and a suite at the same hotel can differ more than two different hotels.
- Which stay. In Can Tho, a suite at Nam Bo is a different price level from a pool villa on the islet.
- The season. Nam Bo publishes a high season from November to May and a low season from June to October, with a 10 per cent reduction in the low season. Other hotels follow their own calendars.
- The number of travellers. The car and the guide cost the same for two people as for four, so the cost per person falls as the party grows, until a larger vehicle is needed.
- The way you leave. Back to Saigon by road, a domestic flight, the boat to Phnom Penh or the fast boat to Phu Quoc each cost differently.
- Guide days. We include a guide only on the days that need one.

What is not included, and why
- International flights. You will find better fares and more flexibility booking them yourself.
- Visas. The Vietnam e-visa is applied for by each traveller on the official government portal; a Cambodian visa, if your passport needs one, matters only if you leave by boat to Phnom Penh.
- Travel insurance. It depends on your health, your country and your other plans. Buy it at home, from an insurer you can reach.
- Dinners not listed. Several evenings are left open so you can eat at the hotel or walk out, as you prefer.
- Tips. At your discretion, for the driver, guide and boat crews.

How a cheaper quote is usually made cheaper
If another quote for the same route is a quarter lower, it is worth asking which of these has happened:
- The hotels are described by star rating, "riverside resort" or "boutique hotel", rather than named.
- A town hotel has been swapped in for one of the nights, often the Chau Doc night.
- Cai Rang is on a shared boat leaving at 07:30 or later, when the market has largely thinned.
- The guide is a driver-guide, or there is no guide on the river mornings.
- Two bases have been squeezed into fewer nights, so the hotel is used only for sleeping.
- A shopping stop or a commission restaurant has been added to the route.
None of these is wrong in itself. A simpler hotel is the right choice on some trips, as our page on when luxury is worth it explains. What matters is that you can see it on the quote. Ours names every hotel, room category and guide day.
Common questions
Questions travellers ask most
Why is your quote higher than another company's?
Usually because of the hotel, the room category or the boat timing. Ask both quotes to name each hotel and room category; once those match, the difference normally narrows to the car and guide days.
Do you add a commission to the hotel rates?
Your quote is a price for the whole trip, not a list of hotel rates plus a fee. It is the price you pay; nothing is added later.
Can we see two room levels side by side?
Yes. Ask for it on the form and the first draft shows both, priced in full.
Are prices fixed once confirmed?
Yes, once the written confirmation is issued and the hotels are confirmed. Before that, hotel rates can change with availability.
